The Pioneers knocked off Grace Christian University tonight for the first time in school history by the final school of 75-69. The Pioneers were led by the team's leading scorer tonight in Chris Rawlins.
Rawlins had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the double-double effort tonight. The Pioneers also had two others in double figures with Antonie Darby who had 16 points and Devin Baker had 10 points.
The Tigers who are the reigning national champions after last season's tournament was cancelled prior to its start due to COVID-19. The Tigers were poised to win the tournament last year being the number 1 seed.
The Pioneers didn't let that stop them tonight as they came out and played their hearts out in a winning effort.
Antonie Darby "We showed that we can move the ball and play as a team tonight." Also adding "As the season progresses we have proven that our team chemistry has gotten better." Darby was emphatic about how this looks for the program moving forward saying "Beating Grace Christian the defending national champion for the first time in any sport."
