The Pioneers opened up their season with a victory over Bob Jones University on Tuesday 90-86.
Chris Rawlins hit four free throws in the closing 10 seconds of the game to seal it for the Pioneers. Rawlins would end with 25 points and five rebounds and would shoot 4-5 from behind the 3-point line leading the Pioneers.
Junior point guard Tyron Duncan had one of his best overall performances as a Pioneer with 24 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. Duncan was aggressive on the offensive end early, helping the Pioneers into the half with a double digit lead.
Coach Austin Sparrow was pleased with his team's performance to open the season.
"Last Night was a great team performance to start with a win over a tough NCCAA opponent," said Sparrow. "I thought Tyron and Chris had a big game leading their team."
The Pioneers return to action Thursday in Pippa Passes with a matchup against Alice Lloyd. Junior varsity takes the court at 5 p.m. with varsity following at 7 p.m.
