The Campbellsville University Harrodsburg Pioneers took down third ranked Johnson University Royals on Monday. This marks the second straight conference win for the Pioneers, who have a chance to make it three in a row when they face Boyce on Tuesday in Louisville.
"We were able to force Johnson into our style of basketball," said head coach Austin Sparrow. "Our defensive effort was excellent tonight, and our intensity carried us through from start to finish. We never lost focus on the task at hand."
The Pioneers were led by Shadarno Clarke 's 18 points and ten rebounds, a double-double that fueled the Pioneers tonight. Clarke was also an anchor on the defensive end and played 39 minutes Monday.
The Pioneers had a big performance from Jamal Weaver, a former membebr of the Johnson Royals. Weaver posted a 14-point, five rebound performance, adding in a block and two steals. Weaver found himself in foul trouble most of the game, but was able to come up big when needed. The Pioneers improved to 6-14 on the year and 3-5 in conference play.
With three conference games left to play, the Pioneers have an opportunity to finish the year on a positive note and take down the second ranked team in the NCCAA, Grace Christian twice both at home, and a road matchup with Boyce.
CU Harrodsburg's push comes just in time to draw attention from the rest of the Mideast, as the conference tournament looms.
