The Pioneers signed a major transfer yesterday from Morehead State, Jacob Rice who was a walk-on point guard for the Eagles last year and appeared in 11 games. The Johnson Central product and a former teammate for current Pioneer Mason Blair.
Rice will be the second point guard to sign with the Pioneers out of an OVC school. The last to do so was Oliver Bishop who played for EKU prior to coming to Harrodsburg.
Rice will come in and compete with Tyron Duncan who has started the last three seasons as the Pioneers point guard. Coach Austin Sparrow believes this will help bring better more depth and more competition for practice saying, "I look forward to adding Rice and seeing him compete in the NCCCAA; he will be dynamic addition to a deep roster of great guards."
Coach Sparrow is really high on Rice as he comes into the Pioneers saying "He will bring great leadership to this team having played at the highest level, he is a great passer, and has a really high basketball IQ. We are excited to have Rice in the program and can't wait to get him on campus."
