Senior Parker Monhollen fired a four-over-par 76 as the Campbellsville University Harrodsburg Pioneers are in fourth place after the first round of the Bob Jones University Invitational Golf Tournament at Cobbs Glen Golf Course in Anderson, South Carolina.
Spartanburg Methodist teams claim the first two spots with scores of 308 and 316.
CU finished the first day with a team score of 332, only two shots behind Bryan College. The host school has two teams in the field, and they bring up the rear with scores of 356 and 371.
Monhollen birdied the first two holes on the second nine to jumpstart his round, and is just one shot behind the individual leaders entering the final round.
Freshman Jakob Begley was impressive in his collegiate debut, shooting an 80 and is in ninth place. Classmates Cameron Gehring J.T. Holcomb each shot an 80. Junior Chance Presley finished the day with a 91, but only four scores were used for the team total.
Three CU players are competing as individuals, and junior Luke Mattingly's 86 paced that group, good enough to be in T-16 after the first round. Juniors Josh Terry and Noah Wagers shot 89 and 92, respectively.
Sophomore Sarah Cress is the only CU girl participating in the tournament. She is in 12th place with a 120 score.
